After 13 years of conflict, Syrians need our attention more than ever. A May 2024 UN report states:
- 16.7 million people need humanitarian aid.
- Over 7 million internally displaced.
- 5.6 million refugees in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and beyond.
- 13 million struggle to find enough food.
- $9 billion needed to address this crisis.
Refugee children face education disruptions, trauma, and limited resources. Despite international challenges, the Sustainable Development Goals aim to provide quality education for all children, including refugees. Effective collaboration among stakeholders is essential to ensure access to education for Syrian refugees.
Cinta Syria Malaysia (CSM) established three schools under the Sekolah KITA initiative:
- **Sekolah KITA I** (2016): Informal education for Syrian refugees in Mafraq, Jordan.
- **Sekolah KITA II** (2017): Initially in Kilis, Turkey, relocated to Afrin, Syria, due to government regulations.
- **Sekolah KITA III** (2018): Located in Bangi, Malaysia, serving Syrian refugees.
Despite ongoing efforts, funding remains a significant challenge. The Education Mission 60 campaign aims to raise funds for the operation, teacher development, and welfare of Sekolah KITA.
